One of the most important urban artists of all time, Barry McGee started doing graffiti in San Francisco in the 1980s with the tag name Twist. His paintings frequently blend minimalist patterns with the representation of experiences of people living in the streets, as well as frustrations, addictions, and urban stimulations. He was part of the Venice Biennale 2001 and is often regarded as one of the first street art pioneers to paint within gallery walls.
